[Editor's Note: There are two important meetings about GLO: tonight and tomorrow night. Tonight (Wed 3/4) is a "GLO at West Portal Site Council" meeting from 6:30-8pm in the auditorium. Senior staff and board members from GLO will be in attendance, so this is a wonderful opportunity to give feedback directly to GLO decision makers. Secondly, discussion about the GLO program is on the agenda for the monthly West Portal Parents Club meeting, tomorrow night (Thurs 3/5) at 6pm in the auditorium, where GLO officials will also attend and present. If you have feedback for GLO about what you liked and disliked this year, what you think are important considerations when searching for the next Executive to lead the West Portal site and also what you'd like to see from GLO in the future, we encourage you to attend at least one of these meetings.]
Hi, my name is Tina Dumas. I am a West Portal parent who currently serves on the Board of Directors of GLO.
I currently have a 3rd grader in Room 5 and a 6th grader who came through West Portal starting in 1st grade. Both have been in GLO since we arrived at West Portal.
GLO currently has 5 sites in San Francisco, including West Portal. West Portal is special to the organization because it was the original site when GLO started as West Portal C.A.R.E., Inc. in 1982.
I’m introducing myself in this role to help facilitate communication between the West Portal community and GLO. If parents have concerns, it is usually fastest to talk directly to GLO teachers or staff. (I understand that this channel has been challenging this year. GLO is already working to remedy the issue). However, if those channels of communication are not working properly, please feel free to contact me and I will facilitate the conversation. In my role as a GLO Board Member, I work closely with the Administrative Staff and know many of the teachers. I can try to direct communications effectively for the quickest response.
For a fast direct response, please contact these people first. You may have seen them around GLO lately:
If you are interested in joining me on the GLO Board, I am also looking for dedicated parents who would like to help shape the future of the entire GLO organization. Our Board has been dwindling over the past few years due to parents’ children aging out of the program and the parents moving on to other volunteer opportunities. Please feel free to reach out to me and I can give you all of the details. GLO began as a parent-run organization, and we try to keep that in mind when recruiting Board members.
And if you want to get involved on a local level, please mark your calendars for the next GLO@WP Site Council Meeting on Wednesday, March 4th from 6:30-8pm.
I look forward to speaking with you.
